We need heroes

Amazon.fr - Leonardo Da Vinci - Isaacson, Walter - Livres

I have just finished listening to the audiobook from Walter Isaacson about the life of Leonardo Da Vinci, (thanks Audible for the amazing choice of audiobooks that you offer!). The life of Leonardo was very interesting, and as the author Walter Isaacson mentioned in his book, Leonardo was the only genius renowned for different aspects of his works. He was not only a genius about art but also in engineering and biology.

When I was a kid I had plenty of heroes that were guiding my behavior. I was always thinking about what my heroes will do in those difficult positions I was sometimes, and it helped me to overcome some challenges.

The first one is Rajinikanth. He is a South Indian actor. He played in many movies. As I grew up watching those movies, I wanted to look and act like him. He had a lot of mimics and movements that can only be done by him, something very typical of South Indian movies I would say.

The movie Baasha was a clear game-changer for a lot of people. The actor Rajinikanth gained a God Like status. He played a role as a former gangster who tries to have a normal life being an Auto Driver. He tried to avoid conflicts nor take part in any sort of violence. His family and people around him consider him a coward. But the reality is that he hides his power in order to have a normal life and not fall into his former gangster life.

The second hero that inspired me was Son Gohan from Dragon Ball Z anime. Gohan is the first son of Son Goku, and he is radically different than his father: he doesn’t like to fight, he wants to study and become a brilliant scientist. But when he has to protect his friends and the Earth he is brave enough to go full power against his enemies. He only fights because he has to, and not for his own pleasure.

The third one is Michael Jackson. He might be a controversial hero, but he was real, compare to the other two fictional characters above. Michael was dancing, singing, and he was human! (Well at least in my opinion).

He had an incredible life starting by his childhood when he had to work harder than any other kids of his age to become as perfect as his father wanted. He suffered a lot, but he didn’t quit. He was a hard worker, and still owns the world record of the biggest selling album of all time.

He proved to the entire world that anyone can fulfill his dreams by working hard.

I have other heroes in mind as well, but they were not as important for me as those ones.

I loved their hard-working nature, their values: kindness, caring about their family and friends. They are here when the other needs them, it sometimes hurts themselves, but they are reliable. They don’t think about what they want to do, but more how could they protect and serve the loved ones.

I think in some way my personality was built growing up with those heroes.

Nowadays there are still people, real or fictional who could be my heroes, but there are very few of them. I don’t see any real values to the modern heroes. I feel nostalgic from my heroes from the past.

This is why I am always thinking about making a video game that could bring back heroes with the values I care about. I hope someday I would be able to release games with those characters.
